PATS, CHIEFS HIRE COACHES

Spokane, WA. — Bill Peters has been named the new head coach of the Spokane Chiefs and will return to the franchise where he once served as the team’s assistant coach.r 

Peters rejoins the Western Hockey League club after a three year stint as head coach of the University of Lethbridge.r 

The Red Deer, Alberta native was the Chiefs’ assistant from 1999-2002 serving under head coaches Mike Babcock and Perry Ganchar. He originally joined the Chiefs’ family as a scout and served as an assistant for half of the ’96-97 campaign.r 

During three seasons behind the bench, Peters helped the Chiefs lead the Western Conference in fewest goals allowed each year. r 

In other WHL coaching news, the Regina Pats have announced that former all star and Junior A head coach Terry Perkins will join Curtis Hunt behind the bench as an assistant this coming season.r 

Perkins has spent the last four seasons as head coach of the Powell River Kings of the BCHL, while assuming the dual role of general manager/head coach in 2003-04. With the Kings, he led the team to the playoffs four straight seasons and was named the BCHL Coastal Conference Coach of the Year in 2001-02 and 2002-03.r 

A former National Hockey League draft choice of the Quebec Nordiques in 1984, Perkins played 200 career games in the WHL as a member of the Portland Winter Hawks.
