Brandon, MB – The Brandon Wheat Kings have signed 18-year-old defenceman Andrei Malyavin to a Western Hockey League Standard Player Agreement.

Malyavin was the 34th overall selection in last month’s CHL Import Draft, and will join fellow 2004 born skaters Ben Thornton, Rylen Roersma, Tyson Zimmer and Nate Danielson on the roster.

The 5’10”, 170-pound defenceman scored two times and added 11 assists in 44 games with the Sarnia Sting of the Ontario Hockey League in 2021-22.

“Andrei is excited to come to Brandon and become a Wheat King,” said Director of Hockey Operations Chris Moulton. “ I know he will fit into our current group.”

Andrei joins Zakhar Polshakov in the European category filling the empty spot left by graduating Marcus Kallionkielli.

The Wheat Kings will open the 2022-2023 WHL Regular Season on Saturday September 24th when the Winnipeg ICE come to town.
