Brandon, MB. – The Western Hockey League has unveiled each team’s Home Openers for the 2019-20 regular season.
The Brandon Wheat Kings, who have been the only Manitoba based WHL club for the past thirty-four years, will bring the curtain up on the regular season with a home and home series with the Winnipeg Ice.
Brandon will host the Ice on Friday, September 20th before travelling to Winnipeg the following night.
This will mark the first time since the fall of 1984 that Brandon has opened up the regular season against a club from Winnipeg. In September of that year, the Wheat Kings met the Warriors in a weekend home and home series.
While the Warriors moved to Moose Jaw the following year, Winnipeg returned to the WHL this spring when the Kootenay Ice announced their decision to move from Cranbrook, B.C.
The complete 2019-20 Western League schedule will be released this Wednesday, June 26th.
Wheat Kings Season Tickets are now on sale and today is the deadline for western Manitoba hockey fans to receive their Early Bird discount and qualify for a chance to win a trip for two to Las Vegas to see the Naitonal Hockey League’s Golden Knights host the team of their choice.
