Brandon, MB. – The Brandon Wheat Kings and Prince George Cougars have completed a one-for-one deal on the eve of the Western Hockey League Trade Deadline.
The Wheat Kings have acquired 19-year old right-winger Reid Perepeluk in exchange for 18-year old left-winger Jonny Hooker.
A 6’3” 215 lb native of Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Perepeluk is in his second full season in the WHL after being chosen in the sixth round (114th overall) of the 2015 Bantam Draft.
In 31 games this season, he’s scored four goals and nine points and has accumulated 51 minutes in penalties.
In 96 career games with the Cougars, Perepeluk has eight goals, 19 points and 124 penalty minutes.
An eighth-round bantam draft selection of the Wheat Kings in 2016, Hooker has eight goals and 13 points in 34 games this season, after scoring three goals and six points last season.
“We’ve addressed a need to add a right winger, who plays with a purpose,” says general manager Darren Ritchie.
The Wheat Kings, who have won five straight games to move into third place in the Eastern Division, hope to have Perepeluk in the lineup Friday night when they host the visiting Red Deer Rebels.
Tickets to tomorrow’s game go back on sale Friday morning at the Keystone Centre box office. They can also be purchased by calling (204) 726-3555 or online at keystonecentre.com/tickets.
