GAME HUB: Wheat Kings close out regular season with weekend series versus the ICE

The Wheat Kings host the Winnipeg ICE in Heritage Co-op Awards Night. This is the final regular season home game for the Wheat Kings and the final weekend of Junior hockey for Brandon locals Nolan Ritchie & Calder Anderson who will age out. Several team awards will be handed out throughout the game.

NEWS & NOTES:
Last Game: The Wheat Kings suffered a 3-2 loss at the hands of the Saskatoon Blades last Saturday evening. It was a game where the Blades got off to a hot start scoring a pair of goals but the Wheat Kings evened things up Nolan Flamand and Caleb Hadland scoring in the final couple minutes of the first period to tie it up at two. In the 2nd frame Blades forward Justin Lies would score with a wrist shot in the slot that would eventually be the game winner. Blades goaltender Ethan Chadwick shut the door, stopping all 20 shots he faced after the 1st period earning 2nd star. Wheat Kings rookie Evan Groening picked up a pair of assists, his first multi point game of his WHL career.
March 24th VS Winnipeg ICE: The Wheat Kings close out the regular season versus the Winnipeg ICE. Last matchup between these two clubs was Sunday March 12th in Winnipeg where the ICE were able to win 4-1 despite a great effort from the Wheat Kings who outshot the ICE. The ICE were able to score off a couple powerplay attempts giving them a comfortable 4-0 cushion heading into the third period. Nate Danielson scored the lone goal in the loss. This would mark the 13th straight loss against the Winnipeg ICE. Last victory over the ICE was December 27th, 2021 when the Wheat Kings stormed back to defeat the ICE 5-4 in overtime. Chad Nychuk scored a pair of goals including the game winner.

Called Up: Wheat Kings Top Prospect Joby Baumuller has been called up and will remain with the Wheat Kings for the rest of the season. The former 12th overall pick, Baumuller finished tied for 4th overall in goal scoring as a 15-year-old in the Saskatchewan U18 AAA Hockey League this year. Baumuller scored his 1st career WHL goal in a 10-2 win over the Edmonton Oil Kings on March 11th . Then Baumuller added another versus the Regina Pats in front of his Notre Dame teammates on March 15th. Baumuller grew up just outside of Regina in Wilcox, Saskatchewan.
