Brandon, Manitoba -- After enjoying the luxury of having the same public address announcer for over thirty years, the Brandon Wheat Kings are searching for a new “voice” for the 2007-2008 Western Hockey League season.
Former Brandon Sun managing editor Brian Marshall was behind the mike for over thirty years, retiring two years ago when he and his wife Shirley moved to the west coast.
For the past two seasons, the job belonged to Brad “Goose” Gosseye. However, he announced plans to move to Alberta this past winter, leaving the hockey club without a full time announcer. With Gosseye gone and the season less than three months away, the WHL club is seeking a new public address announcer.
The person selected will be responsible for attending all regular season and playoff home games, managing all aspects of the Wheat Kings' Game Night portfolio including commercial “voice overs” and coordinating the many in-game promotions during the course of a contest. As well, they will work closely with both Wheat Kings' game day operations director Drew Clayton and Howling the Night Away Productions.
This position would be excellent for someone who enjoys hockey, and who has the time necessary to do it.
Candidates for the position should have experience in hockey or related sports industry and although a radio / broadcast background would be beneficial, it is not essential.
This is a part-time position.
Application deadline is Tuesday, August 7th at 5 p.m.
Interested applicants can fax a brief resume to (204) 726-3540 or by email to rickdillabough@wheatkings.com
Only those applicants that qualify will be contacted.
The Wheat Kings begin training camp in late August and following a 4-game pre-season schedule, Brandon will bring the curtain up on their 2007-08 season with a home and home series with the Saskatoon Blades, beginning with a game at Westman Place (Keystone Centre) on Friday, September 21st.
