WHEAT KINGS TOP REBELS

Brandon, MB. -- Wheat Kings got back on track Saturday night against Red Deer...

Brandon, MB. -- Captain Ryan Pulock celebrated his 18th Birthday Saturday night by scoring twice, including the game winner in Brandon's 2-1 victory over the visiting Red Deer Rebels at Westman Communications Group Place.

Following a scoreless opening period, the Rebels opened the scoring on a second period powerplay goal by Colten Mayor.

Red Deer's  lead lasted less than a minute as the Wheat Kings evened the score when Ryan Pulock blasted a shot from the point past Rebels' netminder Patrik Bartosak.

Pulock's game winning goal came at the 1:19 mark of the third period - with Charles Inglis in the penalty box for a charging minor.

Former Lethbridge Hurricane Nick Buonassisi picked up two assists for the Wheat Kings, who snapped a 2-game losing streak.

Veteran netminder Corbin Boes turned aside 22 shots to pick up the win in what turned out to be his second straight strong performance between the pipes. On Friday night, the 19-year old Saskatoon product made 41 saves in a 2-1 loss to the U.S. Division leading Portland Winterhawks.

Brandon outshot the Rebels 29-23, including 20-14 through the final forty minutes of play. As for special teams, the Wheat Kings were 1-6 with the man advantage while killing off three of four Red Deer powerplays.

With the win, the Wheat Kings improved their record to 3-1-0 at home and 5-2-0 overall. Brandon returns to action next weekend with games against the visiting Everett Silvertips and Tri City Americans on Friday and Saturday nights.
