WHEAT KINGS STRETCH WINNING STREAK TO FOUR

Brandon, MB. – The Brandon Wheat Kings have extended their winning streak to four games.

Fresh off being selected the Western Hockey League and Canadian Hockey League Player of the Week, defenseman Kale Clague scored once and set up another as the Wheat Kings beat the visiting Edmonton Oil Kings 5-2.

Like the club’s recent Alberta road trip that saw them win three games in 3 nights, the Wheat Kings got off to a quick start, grabbing a 3-0 lead by the fifteen mark of the first on goals by Connor Gutenberg, Caiden Daley and Stelio Mattheos.

The Oil Kings got one back before the end of the first and then added a quick one in the second to pull to within one. But Clague’s sixth of the season made it 4-2 through forty minutes of play.

In the third, Vancouver product Gunnar Wegleitner rounded out the scoring with the lone goal of the period.

For Wegleitner, who has previous WHL experience in both Everett and Victoria, it was his fourth goal in his last four games. It was also the Dominos 5 goal, which means all online pizza orders on Thursday will be 50% off.

Matthew Robertson and Ethan Capp scored in a losing cause for the Oil Kings, who were outshot 34-21.

Logan Thompson got the win by making 19 saves while former Brandon prospect Josh Dechaine had 29 saves for the visitors.

Brandon went 2 for 7 with the man advantage while successfully killing off all five Edmonton powerplays.

The Wheat Kings, who are now 5-2-0-1 on the season, will now have the next two days off before returning to the ice for a two game weekend series with Prince Albert.

Saturday’s game is a presentation of Super Thrifty while Sunday’s game is Heritage Co-op “Drive Away Hunger Night”. Fans are encouraged to bring a nonperishable food donation, in support of Local Food Banks.

Saturday is also another Pizza Hut Family Night while the series finale against the Raiders is Sunday Fun Day at Westman Communications Group Place.

The Family Pack includes two adult and two youth tickets, four personal pan pizzas, for soft drinks from Pepsi and four souvenir programs. The $75 Family Package is good for all Saturday night home games this season and is available to purchase at both Pizza Hut locations.

Meanwhile Sunday Fun Day will feature special kids’ concessions, concourse games, face painting and a post-game skate. The best part, however, may be the price! All children’s tickets Sunday will be on sale for just $5 (includes all taxes).

Tickets to this weekend’s games against the Raiders are on sale at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling 736-3555 or online at keystonecentre.com
