WHEAT KINGS CLINCH 1st WILD CARD SPOT
Brandon, MB. – The Brandon Wheat Kings will meet the Medicine Hat Tigers in the opening round of the 2017 Western Hockey League playoffs.
The Brandon – Medicine Hat matchup was confirmed Wednesday night when the Wheat Kings downed the hometown Moose Jaw Warriors 3-1 to clinch the first wild card spot in the WHL’s Eastern Conference.
The Tigers meanwhile finished as the second seed, by capturing the Central Division pennant and finishing second to this year’s Scotty Munro Trophy winning Regina Pats.
The best of seven series will begin in Medicine Hat with games one and two scheduled for Friday and Saturday, March 24th and 25th.
The series will then shift to Dauphin’s Credit Union Place for games three and four as the Wheat Kings will be forced to play their first round home games in the Parkland due to the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair.
Games three and four will be played Tuesday and Wednesday, March 28th and 29th in Dauphin, with puck drop scheduled for 7:30pm.
Tickets to the game will go on sale at 10am Monday, March 20th at the Wheat Kings’ office in Brandon. Fans can also order by calling (204) 726-3535.
For those fans unable to order and pick up their tickets from the Wheat Kings’ office, tickets will be available for pick-up on Monday, March 27th at the Credit Union Place box office “will call” window.
Ticket prices for the playoff games in Dauphin will be $25 (adults) and $15 (youth 17 and under).
Dauphin’s Credit Union Place currently holds close to 1,800 seats and with Standing Room Only tickets included, over 2,000 will be available for each game.

On the ice, the Wheat Kings, who close out the 2016-17 regular season schedule with a weekend home and home series with Regina, snapped a 10-game road losing streak with Wednesday’s victory in Moose Jaw.
The game was completed a week later than originally scheduled after the blizzard that struck Westman last week forced the two teams to post-pone their 2nd game of the season.
Logan Thompson backstopped the Wheat Kings by turning aside 28 shots, including eleven in the first period of play.
Connor Gutenberg, rookie Caiden Daley and Reid Duke – with his 37th goal of the season – provided the offence for the Wheat Kings, who improved to 31-29-7-3 on the season.
Jeff Woo scored in a losing cause for the Warriors, who will meet Jordan Papirny and the Swift Current Broncos in round one of the playoffs.
Tickets to Brandon’s final regular season home game Saturday night are on sale now at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling (204) 726-3555 or online at keystonecentre.com
Saturday’s game is Awards Night, with trophies to be handed out before, during and immediately following the game at Westman Place.
