WHEAT KINGS BOUNCE HITMEN

Brandon, MB. – The Brandon Wheat Kings got back on the winning track Friday night with a 4-1 victory over the visiting Calgary Hitmen at Westman Communications Group Place.

The Wheat Kings, who have now collected seven of a possible eight points during the first four games of this week’s 5-game Western Hockey League homestand, jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead and never trailed in this one.

Zach Wytinck and Caiden Daley had a goal and an assist each for the winners, who improved to 28-12-1-1.

Linden McCorrister and Connor Gutenberg rounded out the scoring for the Wheat Kings, who were playing their first game since Wednesday’s WHL Trade Deadline saw all stars Kale Clague and Tanner Kaspick dealt to Moose Jaw and Victoria respectively.

Newly acquired Luka Burzan and Chase Hartje made their Brandon debuts before over 3,800 fans on Ivan Provorov Bobblehead Night. Burzan assisted on McCorrister’s third period goal, giving the former first round bantam draft choice six goals and 20 points on the season.

Logan Thompson made 28 saves for the win, including eleven in the third period when the Hitmen scored their only goal on a two man advantage. Nick Schneider turned aside 36 shots for Calgary.

The Wheat Kings will close out this homestand Saturday night against the Central Division leading Medicine Hat Tigers. Following the game, Brandon will hit the road for its annual west coast road trip.

Tickets to Saturday’s game – presented by The Real Canadian Superstore – are on sale at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling (204) 726-3555 or online at keystonecentre.com

Saturday is also another Pizza Hut Family Night. The $75 Wheat Kings’ Family package, which is available at both Pizza Hut locations, includes two adult and two youth tickets, four personal pan pizzas, four soft drinks from Pepsi and 4 souvenir programs.
