WHEAT KINGS AND RAIDERS CLOSE OUT SERIES TONIGHT
Prince Albert, SK. – The Brandon Wheat Kings face a critical test this weekend.
The Wheat Kings, who fell 5-2 in Prince Albert Friday night in the first of a home and home weekend series, find themselves in a real dogfight as they challenge for an Eastern Conference playoff berth.
Not only has Regina surpassed the Wheat Kings to move into third place in the Eastern Division, the 30-22-3-2 Wheat Kings have two other teams quickly closing in on them from behind, including the Raiders.
The Saskatoon Blades, who have been surging since mid January, have pulled to within four points while the last place Raiders are just eight back heading into Saturday night’s rematch at Westoba Place.
Needless to say, what happens this weekend between the Wheat Kings and Raiders could go a long way in determining whether Brandon is a playoff team or not this season as only two of the three teams will qualify for post season play.
Both Brandon and Prince Albert have fifteen games to play. Including this weekend, the Wheat Kings will play seven of their final 15 on home ice, including five in March.
As for the Raiders, who are currently 16-8-3-2 on home ice this season, they play 7 of their final fifteen regular season games at the Art Hauser Centre.
The Wheat Kings meanwhile are 9-17-1-0 on the road this season.
The Wheat Kings, who have now lost thirteen straight road games, will play back to back home games this weekend.
In addition to Saturday’s game against the Raiders, Brandon will host Moose Jaw in a Louis Riel afternoon affair on Monday.
Monday’s game will be presented by TELUS, with the first 2,000 fans in attendance to receive a Wheat Kings #AllConnected Super Hero cape.
Saturday’s game meanwhile is a presentation of Guild Insurance and HMS Insurance Agencies, with the first 2,500 fans through the doors to receive a complete set of 2017-18 Player Cards. Participating sponsors of the cards, produced by Leech Printing, include McDoanlds, Blue Moon Water and Montana’s Cookhouse.
Tickets to both weekend games are on sale now at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling (204) 726-3555 or online at keystonecentre.com
Saturday night is also another Pizza Hut Family Night, which means fans can purchase the $75 Family Package at both Pizza Hut locations. The package includes two adult and two youth tickets, four personal pan pizzas, four soft drinks (Pepsi) and four souvenir programs.
Before Monday’s game, the Wheat Kings will recognize Moose Jaw defenceman Kale Clague. The former Wheat King all star helped Team Canada capture the gold medal at last month’s World Junior Hockey Championship in Buffalo.
