PROVOROV BOBBLEHEAD NIGHT FRIDAY
Brandon, MB. – The Western Hockey League’s Brandon Wheat Kings, in association with GIANT TIGER, will be giving away Ivan Provorov bobbleheads at Friday’s game against the visiting Calgary Hitmen.
The first 4,000 fans in attendance will have a chance to take home one of two thousand bobbleheads, featuring the likeness of the former Wheat King great!
Western Manitoba hockey fans attending the game will receive a one of two “colored” cards when they enter the arena. A contest will then take place during the opening period to determine what colored card will earn a bobblehead.
Friday’s game will be the fourth of a 5-game WHL homestand for the Wheat Kings, who have won the first three games to improve to 28-12-0-1 on the season.
A first round draft choice of the National Hockey League’s Flyers (7th overall in 2015), Provorov is currently in his second season with Philadelphia and in 42 games this season, the Russian blueliner has eight goals and 20 points. In 124 career NHL games, Provorov has scored fourteen goals and 50 points.
Provorov played two seasons with the Wheat Kings and helped to lead them to back to back appearances in the WHL Championship Final.
After losing out to the Kelowna Rockets in the 2015 Final, Provorov and the Wheat Kings defeated Seattle four games to one to capture the 2016 Ed Chynoweth Trophy, earning Brandon its first Title in seventeen years.
A 2-time WHL All Star, Provorov was named the Canadian Hockey League’s Top Defenceman in 2016 and was a member of back to back Russian teams that captured silver medals at the World Junior Hockey Championship.
During the 2016-17 campaign – the Wheat Kings’ 50th Anniversary season in the WHL – Provorov was one of twenty players named to the hockey club’s All Time Team.
Provorov becomes the eighth Wheat King to be featured on a Brandon bobblehead, joining the likes of Jordin Tootoo, Ryan Pulock, Matt Calvert, Mark Stone, Chris Dingman, John Quenneville and Nolan Patrick.
