Winnipeg, MB. -- When the Winnipeg Jets' 2012 Development Camp hits the ice at the MTS IcePlex on Monday, Brandon Wheat Kings' netminder Corbin Boes will be among close to forty prospects hoping to catch the attention of the National Hockey League team's coaches and management team.
A Saskatoon product, who turns 19 next week, Boes is expected to be one of seven goalkeepers in attendance after receiving an invitation from the Jets following June's NHL Entry Draft in Pittsburgh.
Boes, who was not chosen in the NHL draft last month, is coming off a stellar 2011-12 campaign that saw him compile a 23-10-2 record, a 2.83 goals against average and a .918 save percentage in 41 games for the Wheat Kings.
A former bantam draft choice of the Portland Winterhawks, Boes recently attended a Hockey Canada Program of Excellence Camp for goalkeepers in Calgary.
Boes will be joined by the Jets' most recent first round draft picks - center Mark Scheifle (7th overall in 2011) and defenceman Mark Trouba (9th overall in 2012) - as well as the entire draft class from both of those years.
The prospects will be on the ice Monday through Friday, beginning at 2:15 pm July 9th.
"The camp is about development," Jets' general manager and former Wheat Kings' captain Kevin Cheveldayoff told reporters recently. "It's not really an evaluation camp per se."
Other goalkeepers expected to join Boes between the pipes at the weeklong camp include Michael Houser of the Ontario Hockey League's London Knights, who was chosen the Canadian Hockey League's Goaltender of the Year this past season, Robert Levin (South Shore, EJHL), Connor Hellebuyck (Odessa, NAHL), Chris Corrozzi (Ontario, ECHL), Jamie Phillips (Powell River, BCHL) and Jason Kasdorf (RPI).
Among the Western Hockey Leaguers attending the Jets Camp this week are defencemen Zach Yuen (Tri-City) and Joey Leach (Kootenay) as well as forwards Adam Lowry (Swift Current) and two members of the Saskatoon Blades - Ryan Olsen and Lukas Sutter.
